I deal mostly with HomeAway in Puerto Rico. I like that here there is not need to convert dollars to another currency. The price that I am given is the price I pay. I have been told by those that use HomeAway in Europe and other parts of the world do not have the conversion problems that some have on other vacation rental sites. I really enjoy browsing through the pictures of available homes and rentals. In my experience I have never had an issue where the pictures do not reflect what I actually get. I have heard all kinds of horror stories from users of other sites where they show up and the owner is not there and where the rental is nothing like what the customers thought they had paid for. I have never had a problem canceling a reservation and I have never lost my deposit. With HomeAway there are options for every budget. I would recommend that anyone wanting to come to Puerto Rico use HomeAway.

Homeaway is my go-to vacation rental site when I am travelling with a large group or with my family. Although Airbnb is more popular, Homeaway for me is much reliable in terms of the property owners who listed the vacation rental. I’ve had my fair share of completed transactions with Homeaway and I’ve always been happy with my choices. With this rental service, I am confident that the rate I’m paying is well adjusted to the right market value of the property and on top of that, I fee secured that I’m working with a tenured lister in this type of short term rental industry. I also appreciate that in Homeaway the photos are a lot better than in other rental sites plus they seem to be more professional more akin to MLS listings I would say. All in all, I would say my experience with Homeaway is the best so far.

HomeAway is a great forum for vacation property owners and those who seek to rent them out to interface and reach arrangements. It is a great option for property owners in particular to streamline the rentals of their properties. I’ve used it often as a renter and it is a fantastic service.

I have rented on Homeaway as a tenant and have been very happy with the rental experience.  Now I have just started listing a furnished apartment on Homeaway and have only just taken a booking from my first tenant.  I hope I can still keep my rating high down the road both as tenant and landlord.  I will certainly update my review if that changes because transparency is very important with the boom of this new temporary/furnished rental trend.  Be warned, scammers will infiltrate!! I am considering as a landlord using my own rental application to learn more about the tenant when I use Homeaway – and I definitely do use a lease.  I also am going to learn more about the landlords moving forward when I rent as a tenant – ask lots of questions.  I will look up on the local tax rolls to be sure that this person truly owns the property.  With the new Airbnb trend I will need to be sure it is not an illegal sublease (which is becoming very commonplace).  So even though – so far – I have had great experiences with Homeaway I can see there is need moving forward to be more cautious.  The key is to do your own research, get your own verification from the other person – get last names, ask for their website, ask if they have a Facebook and linkedin, ask for a driver’s license picture (for goodness sake bouncers at a bar ask for that,certainly you don’t need to be shy about that).  And I mean both tenants and landlords should do this! Don’t be shy.  I don’t want some bad actors to ruin my experience in renting vacation/temporary homes – this is a much needed service for me that I enjoy and appreciate.
